About Special Spaniels Therapy Dogs, Inc

Who We Are

The mission of Special Spaniels Therapy Dogs Inc. is to provide exemplary volunteer visits with our dogs to schools and residential programs (especially those with children and special needs individuals), libraries, parks, community gatherings, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospitals, in an effort to improve the quality of life, activities of daily living and emotional health of those served. All visits are free-of-charge.

Special Spaniels Therapy Dogs, Inc. is multifaceted, comprehensive and innovative. We are committed to offering a therapy dog program which will enrich the lives of the individuals and community served. The community has a tremendous need for additional assistance with limited resources and opportunities within this area.

Special Spaniels Therapy Dogs has identified appropriate community groups and special needs individuals. The majority of the individuals and groups receiving services come from economically impoverished areas. A measurable outcomes evaluation tool is used to monitor the progress and successful implementation of the program.

The target population for Special Spaniels Therapy Dogs is the community's most economically, medically, and educationally disadvantaged individuals. The program utilizes the resources of the community, along with those of experts in planning and administration, to implement the program.

Special Spaniels Therapy Dogs also offers a Reading Program that is organized to assist in developing the literacy skills and enriching the lives of special needs children, preschool/elementary school children and any individual who would like to utilize our services. We offer our Reading Program to community organizations, schools and families within Lake and Porter Counties, Indiana. Reading is fun and we are here to bring enjoyment to the lives of children and individuals through dogs and books.

Special Spaniels Therapy Dogs, Inc. provides the necessary services as long as needed to ensure that all individuals will be serviced no matter what their economic, social or financial background may encompass. We envision building upon our success and continuing to develop and broaden our reach with a premier and much sought after program.

Special Spaniels is a non-profit organization. All funds are derived from grants and donations. Donations or bequests are welcome.

Hi Everyone, we hope you enjoy the slideshow of Ziva and myself. My name is Toby and I am the official visitation puppy for Special Spaniels. I am the chocolate spaniel in the pictures. I have been out and about meeting people in the community, at local nursing homes, parties and also visiting shut-ins. I also like to do reading programs with children and have them pet and hug me as a reward for helping them.
